Toilet Repair FAQ

We do both. If it’s a worn flapper, fill valve, flush handle, wax ring, or a minor leak—repair is usually the smart move. If the porcelain is cracked, the toilet is constantly clogging due to internal damage, or it’s so old it’s costing you in repeat service calls, replacement may be the better long-term fix.

  • Toilet keeps running (that “ghost flush” sound)
  • Weak or incomplete flush
  • Water pooling around the base
  • Toilet rocks or feels loose
  • Frequent clogs
  • Tank won’t refill or refills very slowly
  • You hear hissing or dripping when no one is using it

Most often it’s a worn flapper, a failing fill valve, or the chain/float is out of adjustment. It’s annoying, but it also wastes a surprising amount of water—so it’s worth fixing quickly.

Common culprits include a failed wax ring, loose mounting bolts, condensation (“sweating”) on the tank, or a crack in the bowl/tank. We’ll pinpoint the source fast—because water on the floor is how you end up with damaged subfloor and mold. Not a fun surprise.

Try a plunger if it’s a simple clog. If it keeps coming back, the toilet gurgles, multiple drains are slow, or plunging does nothing, call us. Recurring clogs can mean a partial blockage deeper in the drain, a venting issue, or even a sewer line problem.

Usually it’s a blockage that prevents normal flow, causing water to rise and spill. Shut off the water valve behind the toilet right away (turn it clockwise), and call us if plunging doesn’t clear it quickly.

Oh yeah. A running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons a day depending on the issue. If your bill jumped and nothing else changed, the toilet is a prime suspect.

Whistling or hissing often points to a fill valve issue. Banging can be water hammer (pressure-related). Either way, it’s fixable—and ignoring it can shorten the life of your plumbing fixtures.

Yes. Low bowl water can come from a partial clog in the trap, a venting problem, or issues with the toilet’s internal design/flow. We’ll diagnose it and restore normal performance.

It can be. A rocking toilet can break the wax seal, leak into the floor, and rot the subfloor over time. Tightening bolts is sometimes enough, but often it needs a reset with a new wax ring and proper leveling.

Many common repairs (flapper, fill valve, handle, minor leaks) can be done quickly in one visit. More involved issues—like resetting a toilet, clearing a deeper blockage, or diagnosing venting/sewer problems—can take longer, but we’ll explain what we find and what it’ll take to fix it.

If it’s overflowing, leaking at the base, or the only toilet in the house is down—call us. We’ll help you get it handled as fast as possible.

  • Shut off the toilet’s water valve (behind the toilet, clockwise)
  • If the tank keeps filling, lift the float or remove the tank lid and push the flapper closed
  • Mop up any water and run a fan to reduce moisture
  • Avoid flushing until the issue is diagnosed

Yes—standard, comfort-height, dual-flush, and most modern toilet systems. If it’s a specialty part, we’ll confirm availability and options.

  • Only flush toilet paper (no wipes, “flushable” wipes, paper towels, or hygiene products)
  • Avoid excessive TP “nests”
  • If you have hard water, periodic maintenance helps parts last longer
  • Address weak flushes early before they turn into constant clogs
